Who am I?
My name is Miroslav. “Miroslav” means “Peace” in slavic languages. I live in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Almaty is a green mountainous city in the south of the country, home to over 2 million people. It is very diverse and home to many nationalities. Almaty was once the old capital Kazakhstan before the moved the Capital to what is now called Astana. Kazakhstan was once part of the Soviet Union (U.S.S.R.) so it is a bi-cultural nation in many aspects. It is one of the most unique places you will ever experience. I am not native to Kazakhstan. I was not born or raised here, I do not have any blood, ancestral ties or any kind of spouse here. but chose to migrate here and now I live here long term.
My native language is the English language. But I have an unusual accent. My accent is known as the “Trans-Atlantic” accent. This accent is a cross between northeast American English and Queens English. I killed off my original accent as it serves me no purpose.
The Russian language is widely used in Kazakhstan as it is the lingua franca between nationalities. It is also very important for arts, business and other technical sectors. I know about A2 Russian, bordering B1. My goal is to be fluent in Russian language, meaning C2. But I do not wish to speak standard Moscow accent. I aim to speak Kazakhized-Russian. This is a kind of Dialect that is commonly spoken by Russian speakers in the south of Kazakhstan who are typically bi-lingual in Kazakh or have close proximity to the Kazakh language. It is not the Kind of Russian you hear in Russia, post-soviet countries or any Russian speaking community in the world . I chose this dialect because it states a marker of where I stand and belong in the Russian speaking world.
Most importantly, I am also studying the Kazakhstan language. Like Russian, I want to be fluent, C2. I know it is not an easy language but I am up for the challenge. Knowing Kazakh gives me cultural rootedness and identity that no one can take from me. There is some much rich and deepness to Kazakh culture that one will never be able to embrace it without knowing the Kazakh language. English, Russian, Chinese or any other non-turkic language can only see the surface of it.
I am an unusual archetype. I am something known as a bohemian-rocker or Boho-Rocker for short. As the name implies, I live by a free-spirted, artistic lifestyle that does not follow the mainstream or ordinary norms. My purpose in life is to my arts. I am also something known as a Steppe Goth. Since I live in Central Asia, I adapted the goth subculture to the steppes. Like all Goths, I make peace with and try to see the beauty and harsh realism and the dark side of life.
I have a couple hobbies that people may find not interesting. I like to Write a lot. Journals, articles, blogs, fiction and non-fiction, and so on. I have a lot to say in written form. My kind of writing is the kind that makes people sit and think for hours. And also, for people to enjoy in their times of boredom or despair.
I also like to paint. I am not very good at it, but I like to paint places I have been to and how I feel at that moment. I also do smaller art projects like taking photos, short videos and very basic graphic design. They are nothing special or significant but I add them to my content and projects.
I also like to play Kazakh National Instrument known as the Dombra. I also, like the Electric Guitar and play my favorite rock songs.
I am pro-Asia and only travel in Asia. I have been to Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Kyzgyzstan, Qatar and Georgia (country). I hope to visit more Asian countries and share my experiences through my paintings and writings.
My goal is to be a memorable Artist that when people consume my work, they can be inspired to follow their own artistic endeavours. And, also to promote Kazakhstan and educate the world about it’s deep culture.
